Atlantic Voices is no longer accepting new memebers for the fall season, but may have openings for the winter season which starts in January 2023. Should you be interested in joining, please contact us.
We sing Newfoundland, Labrador, Maritime and Celtic music. We practice Tuesday nights, and usually do two major concerts a year, one at the end of January and one at the end of May. As we emerge from the pandemic our 2022/23 season will be a little different, as we are planning concerts at the end of October and in April rather than following our usual January+May schedule. We also do various events such as singing at the National War Memorial on July 1st to honour the Battle of Beaumont Hamel, or singing at seniors' residences. There is no audition, and an ability to read music is not necessary to join. You don't need to know whether you are a Tenor or a Bass. Nor is it necessary to have any connection to the Atlantic provinces. All you need is a desire to sing and a love for music from the East Coast.
Membership dues are $75 per half-year (up until Concert #1) or $150 per year (up until Concert #2). Membership dues should be paid at the start of the season to the choir's treasurer.
Important! Concert attire is a long-sleeved white blouse/shirt and black ankle-length skirt/pants. Ladies may wear either pants or long skirt (black nylons, socks, and shoes as well, please). Men will be provided with tartan neckties and women with tartan scarves (choice of tartans: Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton, or Labrador). A $10 deposit is required for each tie and scarf. The ties and scarves are the property of the choir. Music must be held in a black binder.
Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings, from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM at the Riverside Churches of Ottawa, 3191 Riverside Drive, Ottawa, Ontario on Riverside Drive just south of Walkley Road. The church is marked on the map below. There is ample parking available. Please note that as a concert approaches, there may be a few extra rehearsals. Can't make it to a rehearsal? Just contact your section representative and let them know.
